Sunset Auxiliary
Since its beginnings in the 1950s, Lutheran Sunset Ministries has had a strong support network of volunteers. Volunteers make a significant contribution to the type and quality of services offered at Sunset. Volunteers serve in all capacities at Sunset and are a welcome part of day-to-day living. The mission of Sunset Volunteer Auxiliary is improving the lives of those served by Sunset programs.
The Auxiliary hosts three major fund-raising activities:
- Pot O’ Gold Thrift Store
- Annual Benefit Quilt Auction
- Chow Down and Fashion Show
Pot O’ Gold
The Pot O’ Gold Thrift Shop opened its doors in 2001, to serve as a major fundraising project for the Auxiliary. The Shop is open each Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Through donated items the Pot O’ Gold has provided for numerous projects for the residents of Sunset. The POG is located in the Luckenbach Residence building at 305 South Avenue G, and the phone number is 254-675-3001.
Quilt Auction
Since 1991 Sunset has hosted an annual spectacular Benefit
Quilt Auction. Quilts from congregations and individuals
throughout Texas are donated and auctioned to provide needed
equipment and furnishings for our residents.
The auction is held the third Saturday in October at the Clifton City Park Armory in conjunction with the day-long community event, Oktoberfest. Each year over 100 quilts are auctioned. Proceeds average $25,000 plus each year.
Chow Down
The Chow Down is a simple meal of beans and cornbread served
alongside fun and fellowship each February. Proceeds for the
meal are used to purchase needed medical equipment for
Lutheran Sunset Ministries.
