About Us
Lutheran Sunset Ministries has an extraordinary story. It was
born from the remains of Clifton College. The College was
established in Clifton in
1896, and was consolidated with Texas Lutheran
College in
1953. The old College buildings were destined to
sit vacant until a group of insightful people took the risk
of serving our aging population.
On the grounds of that empty campus a new life ministry was born with the continued commitment of service. Within one year of operation it was evident that Sunset was destined for a long life. During its 50-plus years Sunset has challenged itself to continually improve its ministry. Sunset has increased the number of sponsoring churches, as well as increased the number of nursing home beds, adding independent retirement apartments, adding assisted living apartments, and hospice services.
Sunset has moved to a new dimension. That new dimension includes a change of corporate name to Lutheran Sunset Ministries, an increase in assisted living services, a fewer number of nursing care beds, increased rehabilitative therapy services, a re-dedication to providing services that allow for people to live full and enriched lives. Sunset remains committed to a ministry of care and services that strives to provide services beyond expectation.
